The Ron Claire Fair

Who remembers the Twinkie eating contest last summer at the Ron Claire Fair?  The face painting?  How about the obstacle courses  and bounce houses for the kids?  The many booths offering goods and services from a variety of different people and organizations?

The Ron Claire Fair is more than just these things... it's an afternoon where we are able to come together as a community.  The success of this fair is due in large part to the amazing efforts of Mona Lisa Wald.

Mona started the Ron Claire fair through a desire to see her community become a better place. Talking with many businesses and individuals face to face, she was able to attract a wide variety of exhibitors to the fair, which has run successfully two years in a row.

The fair has become too large of an effort for just one person to handle, especially now that Mona has returned to school to pursue her master's degree.

Exhibitors have already been asking about the fair for this summer, and much of what needs to be done can be put into place without too much effort.

Help is needed to continue this fair... Is anyone willing to invest a little time and effort and help keep this fair going?

Contributing Writers Wanted!

Every one of us has ideas, experiences, suggestions and resources we can share that can benefit many around us.  I would love to have some contributing authors to this blog... all you need is a Google account (which is free).  Writing and submitting posts to a blog has never been easier, and this blog will surely benefit from a number of different voices.  Anybody interested?

Getting Maps / Making Maps

If you have a Neighborhood Watch area, and would like a map like the Mountain Ridge map, email a description of the boundary, and I'll make up a map for you.

-OR-

You can make your own maps from the master map (large Mt. Lewis Community map).  I'll show you how:

Open the PDF version of the map in Adobe Reader, then zoom up on the section of the map you would like to print, as shown below:

Click on the Print button, and the print dialog box pops up.  Click on the option "Current Display", shown circled in red below:

Click print, and it will print out the map as shown in the small preview window.  Easy, right?

Please let me know if you are having difficulty getting the maps in PDF format.

More Maps

More maps are now available for download, including a version of the Mt. Lewis Community Map without the aerial background, as well as both an aerial / non-aerial version of the Mountain Ridge Neighborhood Watch map.

Mt. Lewis Community Area Map

This is a map of the Mt. Lewis Community area available for download in PDF format - just click on the picture to open the file in Google Docs, or right click on the link and click "Save target as" (or "save link as") to save it directly to your computer.

The map is a work in progress, and will be updated as new neighborhood watch units are created.  We will also add detailed maps of apartment complexes and condominium developments in the coming days as well.

Feel free to submit suggestions concerning information or features we should include on the map, as well as any corrections that may need to be made.
